Martha is the oldest of three girls. Her father was an SPLA soldier
who died in the war. Her mother lives south of Bor.
Her step sister (an older sister from her father's first wife) took
her to a cattle camp to live because there was no food at home. When
this sister heart that there is a school in Kolmarek, she brought
Martha so that she could have an education. "Life here is better than
in the cattle camp," Martha explained. "There, I had to take care of
calves. Now I get to go to school."
Martha doesn't yet know what she wants to do when she grows up.
"Right now, I just like to learn," she said with a shy smile. Her
favorite thing to do at school is to learn how to read. She's looking
forward to being able to read the Bible.
For fun, Martha likes helping in the kitchen. She also enjoys playing
games with the other children.
